Time To Strap In For Destruction

As many of you know, or if your new, your finding out now. I’ve entered Avon’s FanLit contest by submitting a chapter to their first round. Now I’m really excited about this. Or rather, I was until last night. It amazes me that you can be so happy only for one single person to take that happiness and stomp the life out of it.
Anyhow, I’m not going to dwell on that person, if I dwelled on anyone, I’d never be a happy person. In any case, after reading their comment, I doubt checked what I had thought was a perfect submission by me..not that it’s perfect, just I felt it was perfect enough to submit. It turns out I messed up in a huge way. This of course can be explained with a few things but I’m totally blaming myself. I had been up for more than 36+, and wasn’t thinking clearly when I posted my submission.
So when I had made edits (which when I’m working on a chapter, I take it aside on a new page, in word works, and do edits. Well, while working last night I had both pages open. One I was doing edits on and the other the complete and total rough draft. Can you see where I’m going with this? Yeah, it doesn’t take any genius to know that I posted the wrong one. The one that is completely in the raw stages. Where I had made sentence switches, misplaced words, and umm, my worst habit adding and deleting commas where they should be.
So here’s the run down of what I KNOW is wrong: About 14 places where a comma should be added or deleted, 3 spots where a word is in the wrong spot or just doesn’t make sense at all. Anyhow, I needed to vent about my being stupid. Stupid about being so excited about something that I didn’t pay attention and at least show that I somewhat know what I’m doing.
Heaven help those that read my submission.
Reading: I don’t know..I’m trying to figure out what I want to read. Help me decided. Candice Hern’s Just One Of Those Flings, Shana Galen’s No Man’s Bride or Suzanne Enoch’s Something Sinful. What do you think I should read?
Word of the day: discrepancy ~ (noun) a difference or variance between two or more things.

Good luck, Haven! I saw your name come up several times on the Avon site. I haven’t decided if I’m submitting anything or not. Hope you’re having fun!

You never know. I mean honestly, the votes stink but it doesn’t hurt to put your stuff in front of an editor at Avon right?
Anyhow, if you enter I wish you the best of luck. And a word of warning, ignore the comments lol.

I entered the contest too. I actually got really excited when you commented on mine lol. I read Romantically Inclined all the time and I was momentarily star-struck! Anyways, good luck with your entry!

AWW how sweet of you to be star struck…I think that is a first for me.
I try to only say kind things, mainly because I know none of us are pros and we would only put our very best..which means we’ve put our heart into these submissions. I might point out small errors, just so the author can see it and check closer the next time but I never bash. I mean, who am I to crush a person that might be the next Nora Roberts?
Anyhow, I just got a comment that made me laugh. They complained about the way I used the cocking of the hammer. Because I didn’t use the work cock, I mean why bother, it’s just going to show up as a jumbled mess of #$%@#$ anyhow. Who wants to read @#$% when they can read “the hammer clicked”. I know they the historical correctness of firearms..but when the program is set up to #@$% certain words, you are sometimes left no other choice.
Quick question, do ya’ll know what #$%#$ is? haha.

I saw an entry where a character was wearing a headdress with a peacock feather, and guess what happened to that?
September 10th, 2006 19:51
Yeah, it’s hard to put “truth” to an entry if your words are going to be jumbled. But it does make for an interesting read..trying to see what @#$@#$ truly means lol.

Are they using a direct letter substitution for the words or is it random? (says the puzzle freak)

I actually don’t know. I decided to go with a non-cocking so my submission wasn’t altered. Sadly, this seemed to upset a few readers it seems.
But if you figure it out…let me know.
